Who we are.
The Alberta Tobacco Control and Nicotine Prevention Network is a coalition of public health supporters, educators, health professionals, parents, and community organizations in Alberta. We were formed to add a clear prevention-focused voice to provincial debates about tobacco and vaping policy.
What we do
We publish short policy summaries, public submissions, and educational resources. We comment on Alberta legislation that affects nicotine products and youth exposure to them. We share evidence-based materials from Health Canada, the Canadian Paediatric Society, the World Health Organization, and Alberta Health.
What we do not do
We do not sell tobacco, vapour, or nicotine products. We do not provide medical advice, and we do not represent the Government of Alberta or any other government body.
How we work
Our publications are written and reviewed by participants in the network who have backgrounds in public health, education, primary care, and community work. Where we cite figures or recommendations, we link to the primary source. Where evidence is still developing, we say so.
Who can join
The network is open to Alberta residents and Alberta-based organizations who share a prevention-first approach. We welcome public health supporters, educators, parents and caregivers, community groups, and other interested members of the public. There is no fee to join, and membership is informational only.
Why we focus on Alberta
Provincial governments hold most of the levers for retail, age of sale, flavour, school area, and promotion rules. Alberta's Tobacco and Vaping Reduction Strategy sets the broad direction. Specific legislation like Bill 208 shapes how that strategy is carried out in practice.
